Before you start a support ticket or panic-call your host, you want one thing: a quick, trustworthy answer to "is this website down right now?"

Our free HTTP checker does exactly that — no signup, no install. Paste a URL and it runs a real request from our servers and shows you:

  • HTTP status code — 200 OK, 301 redirect, 404, 500, timeouts, and DNS failures
  • Response time — how long the server took to answer
  • Response headers — useful for spotting caching, redirects, or misconfigured servers

Because the request comes from our infrastructure rather than your laptop, the result is not polluted by your ISP, your local DNS cache, or your office network. If you want the regional angle on why a site can look down from one place and up from another, read why a site is down for you but not everyone.

When a One-Off Check Is Not Enough

A checker answers "is it down at this exact second?" A real outage is a question of time, not a moment: is the site reliable over a day, a week, a quarter? That is continuous monitoring:

  • Checks run automatically on a schedule (every minute up to every day).
  • Failures are confirmed over consecutive checks so you are not woken by one bad request.
  • You get alerted the moment a real outage starts and when it recovers.
  • You keep a history you can report on — uptime percentage, incident count, response times.

From Checker to Monitor in Two Minutes

The natural upgrade path is to take the URL you just tested and turn it into a permanent monitor:

  1. Create a free account — 15 monitors, no credit card.
  2. Add an HTTP monitor for the URL, with a keyword assertion so a broken-but-200 page still alerts.
  3. Add an SSL certificate monitor and a domain expiry monitor so the two most common silent outages never surprise you.

That trio — uptime, SSL expiry, and domain expiry — covers the failures that take most sites down, and it all fits in the free plan with 5-minute checks and 7-day history.

More free tools live at monitorion.com/free-tools: ping, DNS lookup, port checker, security headers, site audit, SSL checker, and WHOIS lookup — each one handy on its own and a doorway to a permanent monitor.
